“We are now God’s stewards. We are indebted to him for all we have…A steward is not at liberty to use what is lodged in his hands as he pleases, but as his master pleases…"
John Wesley, Sermon 51
Do you love the earth? Stupid question I know. But sometimes it seems like we humans see it more often as an indestructible tool rather than the fragile gift from God that it is. In Genesis 2:15 it says, “The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” We are called to take care of this precious gift that is so often a reminder of God’s beauty and love for us.
Is God calling you to be more intentional about how we treat the planet? Would you like to help First UMC Newton to be more faithful stewards of creation and the resources it provides? A Creation Care Team is forming that will do just that. We will look at the scriptural and theological basis for our care of the earth and find ways to live out the Genesis command to take care of this paradise we inhabit.
