First United Methodist Church Newton is a United Methodist congregation located in downtown Newton, NC, the heart of Catawba County. We are a Lighthouse Congregation where EVERYONE is welcome! We live out our mission, "Loving All People Into A Relationship With Jesus Christ" by becoming "One Diverse Community, Passionately Worshipping Jesus, and Practicing Unprecedented Acts of Hospitality."

What To Expect

Sunday morning worship at First Newton offers two unique worship experiences. We have a Community Breakfast in the Fellowship Hall before our Praise Worship Experience. Then, coffee and refreshments are served in the newly renovated Welcome Center before and after the Traditional Service.

  • Our 9:00am PRAISE service is a casual, come-as-you-are, worship experience offered in our Fellowship Hall. Come early to grab some hot breakfast and sit at tables and fellowship with others or sit in the rows of chairs.  This service features an amazing Praise Team which varies from acoustic sets to a full praise band feel.  Holy Communion is offered on the first Sunday of each month. Children are always welcome in worship (colorful activity bags are available) and childcare is available.

  • Our 10:30 a.m. service offers a traditional worship experience in the sanctuary (most easily accessible through the doors along Main Street) accompanied by our Chancel Choir and the newly restored pipe organ. The service features hymns, anthems, and liturgy; Holy Communion is offered on the first Sunday of each month. Children are always welcome in worship (colorful activity bags are available in the Narthex), and childcare for the very young is available.

Membership & BAPTISM

We'd LOVE to have you join First United Methodist Church Newton! Anyone wishing to become a member of our congregation may do so by professing their faith in Jesus Christ, reaffirming your faith after an absence from church life, by transfer of membership from another denomination or congregation. Simply contact the church office and a Pastor will reach out to schedule a meeting to discuss the process. If you have never been baptized, you can be baptized and received into membership at the same time, in a regular service of worship.

Locations of Services

On Sunday mornings, our Praise Worship Experience is located in our Fellowship Hall. The main entrance for this is 300 N. Ashe Ave. Newton, NC 28658. There are parking lots located behind the basketball court & playground, outside the main Welcome Center entrance and on the streets surrounding our property. We are located on the corner of N. Main Ave., W. 4th St. and N. Ashe Ave. in Newton, NC. 

Handicap Accessibility

Yes, we are handicap accessible and we do have an elevator that access all floors where there is worship. To utilize the elevator, please enter the parking lot on N. Main Ave. and the doors under the covered walkway into our Welcome Center. The elevator is through the breezeway. 

Church Office Location

Our church office is located inside our Welcome Center. Park in the parking lot at 300 N. Main Ave. and enter through the doors under the covered walkway. The offices are located to the left behind the glass walls.
